Wutai, Gaia, Last-week-through-Monday, Fandom Time
It had been three nights, and they were well into the fourth day, and the entire time they had been surrounded by Wutai's lush forests, absurdly sticky heat for the time of year, and rain. There were gnats, flies, and other biting insects, some brilliantly coloured, others near impossible to see.
They were doing their best to avoid both armies that waged in the unending guerrilla war for Wutai. The ShinRa troops, they gave a wider berth. After all, if they killed Wutaian soldiers... well, there was less to be concerned with for that.
Rufus didn't know what his companion thought of the war. Or what he made of being up against his old foes again. He glanced sidelong at Zack, while also making sure they weren't followed for the moment as they continued to make their way through the forest, looking for any sign of the missing SOLDIERs.
Rufus was, against all odds, having fun.
[For Zack. And SP. So much SP.]

He held out a hand, silently indicating that Rufus should stop, and he frowned. There was water flowing nearby; a river that would lead them back toward the ocean, or further inland toward the Wutai settlements. It would be the easiest way to find a starting point.
It was also generally a breeding ground for adamantaimai, the large, tortoise-like monsters that often hung around Wutai's waters.
"How much experience do you have with fighting monsters?"

That he wasn't exactly sure why was beside the point--Rufus was good, Zack was better in this sort of situation. That was why he'd wanted him along.
Rufus listened to the sound of water running.
"I'm passing familiar with those around Midgar," he admitted. "And the odd monstrosity that Fandom flings my way."

Zack considered that for a moment, and then nodded, lowering his hand.
"Adamantaimai shield themselves," he explained. "In the time it would take us to take one down if we get too close to the water, we'd have Wutai troops all over us. Better to keep the river within earshot and keep our attention on other enemies, instead."
