Liliana was thrilled to have gotten all the way to the third class of the term before being reminded why depending on the Danger Shop could be a very stupid idea.

She was just going to assume that it was making sure Erasmus didn't miss out on any opportunities to actually learn before Nikodemus got him the charm or whatever. That way she wouldn't scream. Probably.

When the class entered the Danger Shop, they would not discover the regular classroom setup. No, it looked like an old-fashioned movie theater, complete with people hawking popcorn and other refreshments. Liliana was trying to not audibly grind her teeth. "Regardless of what I try to do, the Danger Shop has other plans for us today," she announced. "So instead, we will be watching...whatever the Shop has decided it has in store for us."

And once the class had taken their seats and gotten their refreshments, she hit play to begin...the pilot episode of The Shambling Deceased. Because...sure. That might as well happen.

Steve and Tony had a slightly rickety gingerbread version of the Avengers Tower in front of them that they were clearly horribly proud of. "Welcome back, everyone!" Steve said with a bright smile. "Welcome to Bread Week."

"We hope you all had fun with your cookie buildings." Or broke them immediately. Which was possible. "We'll get to judging those while you all start on your first bread with sweet bread rolls of any type you'd like."

"Just make sure that they have enough filling," Steve added. Steve still had opinions about pains au chocolat without enough chocolate.

Tony nodded along with that. Chocolate was important. "Following that, we want you all to make us pita. And, for an additional challenge, a tzatziki and hummus."

"I love hummus," Steve said, nodding.

"And. For your homework... we want you to make a braided bread. But a lot of braids." Really sounding like an expert there, Tony.

"The most braids wins," Steve said, nodding.

Not normally how baking class went, but sure!

"Today we're gonna begin a little bit of a unit focusing on one city," Raiden told his students today. "I know, I know, there are so many great foods and food cities out there, but--well, seriously, we could've spent the whole semester eating our way through New Orleans. But today we're moving on from New Orleans, and we're going to spend some time exploring Rome.

It wasn't a special occasion or anything, but Lydia felt it had been quite some time since the Supper Club had graced Cafe Fina and its singing, dancing tableware with their presence. It was quite delightful, and any newer residents of the island were in for a surprise, because she'd neglected to mention it in her missives letting everyone know where to meet.

Welcome to Supper Club, everyone! Try the grey stuff, it's delicious!

They're a much better worker than you is why. Moving on, up at the School, Space Pirates, Pirates in Space, was all about getting that loot, which Stark and Flint possibly bonding over that time one of them exploded a space bank after robbing it. As you do. In Health Education, Don explained about tiny things living in water that will make you sick. Seems legit.

As expected, nothing much happened in the Dorms, while in Town, there were tea waffles at Over Easy, Sabine was figuring out how to cat-proof the firing range at Wellspring Arms, and Harley was at the Perk, texting.

Luckily there were blankets in case of Gray visits still and Belle had wrapped herself up in one.

The library was open it was just unreasonably chilly for unknown reasons.

Liz was still feeling rather restless from last week, even though she wanted to try and get as much work as she could done while she was able to come downstairs and work from there.

She was taking it as easy as she could, she was hoping to have everything finished by lunchtime so she could go back upstairs for the rest of the day but she was seeing what she could get done in that time.

The blob of... whatever that had been in the display on the lower floor was gone. Which was good as frankly neither Blathers nor Steven had wanted to touch it. They both agreed that it was best not to wonder where it had gotten to and to simply be glad it wasn't around anymore.

The tomato plant upstairs was also... gone? Sort of? Last week it had been tall and fruiting (tomatoing?) Now in its place a tiny sprout remained. Steven had no idea what to make of it and wondered if he should give Nell a call to see if it was all right. But for now it neither seemed hurt nor was hurting anybody, so once again Steven and Blathers left it be.

Otherwise Steven was downstairs at his usual spot behind the Welcome Desk. After making sure the brochure rack was properly filled up, of course.

Sabine was trying to get back into a routine again. This was both harder and easier to do when things were pretty consistently quiet, and since it was, she decided she might as well get some shooting practice in. She put the "IN BACK- YELL" sign out and brought a blaster she hadn't used before to test out.

And she was trying to figure out how to keep a cat out of the area. This was not the place. Not the place.

"Last week we talked about vaccines," Don told his students. "This week, we're going to talk about why they work, and what causes most forms of disease, which is germs. For centuries, the prevailing theory, in the West, at least, was that miasma, or something bad in the air, caused disease, although in different times and places you saw people starting to see the holes in that theory via observation and logic--noticing how disease could pass directly from person to person, usually. Or maybe they would figure out that hey, wait a minute, it's the water that's causing this particular disease, but they still didn't know why. That's because the human eye can't see viruses or bacteria, aka 'germs.' They're too tiny.

"In 1674 a Dutchman named Anton van Leeuwenhoek designed and built his own microscope, a device capable of magnifying our vision of something by many, many times, and observed the first single-celled organisms in a drop of water from a pond. Over the next couple of centuries, scientists learned more and more about microbiology, and by the late eighteen hundreds what they had learned solidified into germ theory: transmissible diseases are caused by 'germs,' these microscopic organisms that invade the human body and have to be fought off by the immune system. Most germs are either bacteria or viruses, and for practical purposes what you need to know is that you can fight a bacterial infection with antibiotics, but not a viral one.

"This week we have a microscope with a slide featuring a droplet of pond water, just like the one Anton van Leeuwenhoek would have observed back in the day." Although this one was from Fandom's pond, so Don had taken a quick peek through the viewfinder before class to make sure there wasn't anything really weird in there. "I'd like everyone to come up and take a look, and see just how much is going on under the surface."

They were still on the completely-impossible-to -actually-be-a-space-pirate ship for a third class in a row, this time bobbing along through an entirely scientifically inaccurate nebula.

"Today we're going to be talking about the main reason anyone becomes a pirate, space or otherwise," Aphra told them by way of greeting. "People will tell many reasons why they might become a pirate, and some of them are even true."

"Freedom of the open sea, issues with authority, the fashion," Isabela listed off on her fingers. "But when it all comes down to it, it's the loot. Everyone wants a piece of that booty." Which probably explained why she was perched on top of a treasure chest.

"Today we're going to talk about the kind of things that a space pirate might consider loot," Aphra said. "And the friends we made along the way don't count, unless you literally made them and not just metaphorically."

"After that, we'll leave it to you to figure out how to divvy up your loot," Isabela said, standing and opening the chest to reveal it was full of chocolate coins.

Good morning. It’s Wednesday. Time for me to tell you about the news from yesterday. What there is.

3 classes at the school as usual. Things started with Ghanima taking her Reclaiming Your Childhood students to a waterpark and spa. That does sound like a good way to spend a day. Spas are good…I miss…nevermind.
Diplomacy with Anakin and Ahsoka watched a movie and learned about terrible translations. And my Dealing with Other People’s Trauma class discussed the importance of apologies.

I’ve nothing from the dorms but the porg seems to have taken this morning off so at least there’s not his terribly sad face to have to deal with.

From the town I have just a few notes. Erasmus had trouble getting tea at the Perk. Jon was able to get the tea he wanted, perhaps because it was a different kind, and they realized they’re both in Liliana’s class. As am I.

And now the final note of today about yesterday. Kitty made Tino attempt to clean up the glitter in Caritas. It doesn’t sound like he had much luck. Or much fun. Good.

That’s all from yesterday for today.

Students had been handwavily told today to pack their towels and swimsuits, and they would find Ghanima and Trebor waiting at the door to the school with a large tote filled with extra towels.

"Today, we're going to the phenomena known as a 'water park,'" Ghanima informed everyone cheerfully. "As a creature from a desert planet, I loathe the idea of a precious resource being used this way, but I am told it is something many children do, so we are going to give it a try!"

"In this case, we are going to a state called Wisconsin, to the Kalahari Water Park. Don't worry, for those of you whom discover you despise the experience, the Kalahari also offers an adventure park, or even spa services." Which is exactly where Ghanima would be, once Trebor tired of the experience.

She held-up gift-cards as the portal appeared next to her. "I have covered a meal for everyone," she continued, "--and again, the portal is time-locked so you can spend as long as you like at the park, and still make it back in time for second-period." Ghanima smiled brightly. "I'll be doing that for most of the semester, so you can make the most of your time."

"Now, let's play!"

“Apologies,” Stark said once everyone had arrived. “Not from me. I don’t think I need to apologize to any of you yet…but we’re going to talk about apologies today. It’s a very important subject. A difficult one, sometimes, but important.”

Was Ignis twitching slightly somewhere else on the island?

“Sometimes…sometimes you need to apologize. Sometimes it’s the only thing you can> do. Even if you don’t want to, or if you’ve done it wrong before, or if you think it might not be useful. You still should try.”

He was talking to himself here, too. Definitely.

“There are lots of reasons to apologize. Countless reasons. You may have done something purposefully that hurt someone else, you may have done something unintentionally, you may have not done something…big things, small things…so many things that are deserving of apologies and yet so many things are never apologized for.”

Stark's voice trailed off for a moment then he shook his head and continued.

“It helps though, apologizing. It might not fix everything but it helps and sometimes a little improvement can be everything. Sometimes an apology means the world to someone. Sometimes it means very little. But you should still try. It's better for everyone if you do, usually.”

Oh no, he was looking extra sincere right now. Followed by looking concerned.

“of course, if you never know that someone was hurt you'll never know to apologize. Sometimes you may just need to pay close attention to reactions to things, from people. If you can tell someone that they've hurt you then they'll hopefully know not to do the same thing again. Hopefully. So…let's talk about apologies?”

Erasmus had received a slip letting him know he had a package to pick up at the post office that morning, so he'd gone to get it after his class. Sadly, it didn't include even a prototype 'try this and tell me what happens' charm to try to block the Chain Veil (his father was working on it; Erasmus really hoped he was sleeping at some point), but it did contain a full restock and then some on pain charms, which was great considering he had another date with a migraine scheduled for Thursday.

He wasn't worrying about that until Thursday.

After the post office, he'd decided to stop by the coffee shop, where he had continued to fail in obtaining sweet tea. Instead, after a very confusing conversation with the worker at the register, he'd ended up with an iced pumpkin spice latte, which was...well, he had been trying to get something iced. He'd give them that.

"I'm just gonna have to make my own tea, ain't I?" he muttered, and took a sip of his coffee. It wasn't bad.

"Well, I couldn't very well ask to borrow Threepio from Luke, could I?" Anakin muttered to Ahsoka as the students came in. "Threepio would never stop talking. Ever."

"I guess whoever programmed him forgot a sense of discretion," Ahsoka replied, in a similarly low, but innocent and angelic tone.

"You're hilarious," Anakin said in a tone that said otherwise.

"I like to think so," Ahsoka said cheerfully.

Anakin finally remembered they had a class to teach. "Right. An important part of diplomacy is making sure everyone understands everyone else. In our galaxy, we use droids, but we couldn't bring one here to show you."

Mostly because Anakin didn't want to.

"So instead we'll be exploring the importance of well-trained or programmed translators by closely examining the work of bad ones." Yes, it was a movie day.

"We'll be using an instructional video." Sure, Anakin.

"There may be a quiz later."

There would definitely be a quiz later. Probably next week. "Don't drool too obviously on the desks if you do take a nap," Anakin concluded.

I don't wanna deal with coworkers or work or life today, so here's a meme we haven't done since August 2024. We've had new characters in the last year, we might as well update.

There are certain characteristics about the people we play that *we* know, but we get tired of repeating in every introductory ping. There's also stuff that players wouldn't really be able to figure out just looking at an icon--how tall someone is, if they have an accent, what kind of clothes they are wearing...and in some cases, if their eyes/hair/whatever are different than the PB we've picked.

So wax poetic about what your characters look/sound like, if they have tics or scars, how they dress, if they have a distinct singing voice, etc!

Have at it!
